Cultural visits to Saint Jean d’Arves

The Museum of Former Life, located in the old presbytery near the church of Saint Sorlin d'Arves, 2km from Saint Jean d'Arves, evokes the materials and life of yesteryear. Inaugurated in 1977 by residents of Saint-Sorlin-d'Arves and restored in 1985-1986, it presents a fascinating collection.

On the ground floor, you will discover a scene of peasant life with mannequins in traditional costumes in a period kitchen, surrounded by practical utensils such as a stove, a table, crockery and cutlery. These mannequins represent typical characters of the time, including a man dressed in 1900 fashion, a shepherd and a very young child. You will also see lace samples, ribbons, headpieces and colorful interior or party photos.

Upstairs, a collection of old tools used by the locals is exhibited, accompanied by numerous photos, drawings and information on agro-pastoral life from the 17th to the 20th century.

Walking with donkeys
